Ray Hilborn presents at SeaWeb in Barcelona

As IFFO members who regularly attend the Members’ Meetings and Annual Conferences will know, Prof Ray Hilborn of the University of Washington in the US has been undertaking some project work for IFFO on forage fish stocks since 2015.  Ray’s work looks specifically at the interactions between forage fish stocks and the predator populations that predate on these fish species as a food source.  The work challenges some of the assumptions in the Lenfest report about the need to limit exploitation of the fishery based on a need to leave enough fish in the water that marine mammals and seabird populations are not impacted by fishing pressure.  Ray recently presented at the Seaweb conference in Barcelona, and members who may be interested in seeing a copy of his slides may access them here
