Governance & RS Board Members
In 2013 the multi-stakeholder Technical Advisory Committee for the standard became the IFFO RS Board and it continues developing the Standard. This Board comprises representatives of fishmeal and fish oil producers, traders, fish feed producers, fish farmers, fish processors ,retailers, marine conservation NGOs, related standards and the IFFO Technical Director. The roles and responsibilities of the IFFO RS Governance Board are described in the IFFO RS Governing Board - Terms of Reference V1.5

Ally Dingwall is the aquaculture and fisheries manager at Sainsbury’s in the United Kingdom since 2008. As a member of the Sustainable and Ethical Sourcing team, he has responsibility for fish sourcing policy in line with Sainsbury’s business commitment to sourcing with integrity. Ally joined Sainsbury’s from Huon Aquaculture in Australia where he was General Manager for Value Added Processing. He previously worked for Uniq plc, Pinneys of Scotland and Marine Harvest in a variety of production, technical and procurement roles.
Andrew Jackson has been the technical director of IFFO – The Marine Ingredients Organisation since 2006 and is responsible for IFFO’s technical programme and the development of the IFFO RS. Andrew worked for a number of years in fish nutritional research and feed formulation as well as having over 20 years’ experience in the salmon farming industry in a range of different senior positions in both Chile and Scotland where he was also Chairman of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation. Andrew has a degree in Marine Zoology from the University of St Andrews and obtained his PhD in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling in the UK.
Blake Lee-Harwood has both a BSc and MSc in biological sciences and has worked in senior positions for environmental advocacy groups including Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Birdlife International. In recent years he has acted as a strategic advisor to government and industry on sustainability and worked closely with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the British Government on communicating climate change issues internationally. Blake currently works with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) – a not-for-profit, business-focused NGO that works closely with the seafood industry in generating reliable sustainability metrics and developing fishery and aquaculture improvement projects. Blake leads SFP’s work on communications and strategy and has a particular interest in sustainability standards. He is also currently a member of the steering committee for the Aquaculture Stewardship Council Feed Standards Dialogue.
Daniel Lee is an aquaculture specialist with expertise in the design, implementation and management of new projects. He has been GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices standards coordinator since the program’s inception. The multilingual aquaculturist works closely with BAP Standards Oversight Committee and helps guide and coordinate among technical committees. Lee also manages aquaculture research projects for the Centre for Applied Marine Sciences at Bangor University in the United Kingdom, where his main interest lie in understanding the environmental impacts of tropical aquaculture operations as well as developing systems with minimal impacts. He published the textbook Crustacean Farming, Ranching and Culture.
David Parker is a passionate Marine Biologist graduated from the University of Wales currently holding an MSc degree in Environmental Management. He works for Young’s Seafood where he focuses in projects covering wild fisheries sustainability and improvement. He also has ample experience on the environmental NGO sector working for WWF Cymru as a Marine Policy officer offering invaluable insight into identifying and developing coherent and relevant fisheries policy and the advocacy sector in general; and for The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) where he produced fishery sustainability assessments, worked with retailers and processors on seafood policy and engaged in policy and debate regarding seafood sustainability in multiple fora including government, consumer, media, science and industry - representing the organisation on both a national and international level. He is member of the Fish For Life Steering group and sits on the MSC Scottish Advisory group. He is also a keen Cyclist, Adventurer, Sailor, Artist, Fishermen and SCUBA diver.
Duncan Leadbitter runs his own consulting business (Fish Matter Pty Ltd) and consults to Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, an NGO that works with seafood businesses to assist their moves towards sustainable sourcing and management. As an in-house consultant Leadbitter provides advice on a wide range of issues such as aquaculture feed fish fisheries, tunas and deep water species, as well as liaising with seafood producers, NGOs and multilateral fisheries organisations.
He has spent 30 years in fisheries management and marine conservation planning, working for government, the commercial fishing industry and NGOs. He is a passionate seafood consumer, scuba diver and spearfisherman.
Humberto Speziani is Director of Tecnologica de Alimentos S.A. (TASA) the largest Fishmeal producer of the world. President of Business Solutions to Prevent Poverty (SEP), Vice President of the Peruvian Japanese Business Council CEPEJA – Peru and President of the Fishing Committee of Peruvian Exporters Association (ADEX). He has been in the fishing sector for the last 45 years. Humberto was the president of IFFO between 2010 - 2011, President of the Peruvian National Fisheries Society (SNP) and President of the National Confederation of Private Business Associations - CONFIEP (2011-2013).
Michael Lutz is a Senior Manager for the departments Purchase & Sales, Shipping & Logistics and Quality Management for Köster Marine Proteins GmbH from Germany. With more than 20 years experience in the fishmeal and fish oil trading industry Michael is currently working as a consultant for various entities such as ISIS GmbH (International Standard for Integrated Sustainability, Hamburg/Germany); for AWI (Alfred Wegener Institute for polar and marine research, Bremerhaven/Germany) and IMARE (Institute for Marine Resources Bermerhaven/Germany) for various aquaculture projects. In addition, he acts as project consultant for aquaculture and fisheries for the Institute for Animal Nutrition/ Free University of Berlin and for the University of Bremerhaven.
Niels Alsted is the Executive Vice President of the BioMar Group and is responsible for raw material sourcing, Niels has been working for BioMar for 25 years and has been a driving force behind the BioMar Group’s international expansion making them one of the world’s leading fish feed producers. From the beginning, Niels participated in setting new standards in fish farming; he was one of the persons behind the first environmentally declared fish feed in the world (Ecolife) which has make Danish Aquaculture an internationally competitive and environmentally friendly industry. He is member of the Board of Directors of Damolin A/S and GUDP (Green Development and Demonstration Programme) under the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.
Niels Alsted is highly respected among both colleagues and professionals from the global fish farming industry. He is a dedicated speaker and he participates in numerous cross-industrial and international forums where he e.g. plays an important role in ensuring a sustainable development of aquaculture, among others in dialogue with WWF and other NGOs .
Nils Christian Jensen
Nils Christian Jensen is CEO of the Danish company Polar Omega A/S and was the President of IFFO between 2008 – 2009 and 2011 - 2013. His career for the past 30 years has been in the fisheries industry, both in the public and private sector; this has included the FAO (United Nations), the Biotechnology Institute (Kolding), the Danish Ministry of Fisheries, and the Danish Fishmeal Association, working in research, consultancy and general management. Nils Christian has been a board member of IFFO since 2002.
Petter has more than 20 years of experience from various sectors in the salmon industry. He currently serves as Breeding Director of Marine Harvest Group. Was Vice President Feed & Environment in Marine Harvest ASA before that and continues to be involved in sustainability processes. Other previous jobs include that of Technical Director Marine Harvest Group, Vice President Corporate Quality and Feed of Fjord Seafood ASA, Executive Director of BioMar Chile, R&D Director of the BioMar Group, and research scientist at AKVAFORSK (now Nofima Marine) in Norway. Petter gained his Ph.D. degree in animal nutrition from the University of Life Sciences (UMB), Norway, in 1993.
He is a current board and committee member of the Board of the European Aquaculture & Innovation Platform (EATIP), Supervisory Board and Technical Advisory Group of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Supervisory Board of the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Aquatic Epidemiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College, Prince Edward Island.
Dr Hart has over 30 years experience in aquaculture working in a variety of positions in the commercial sector, government, research, lecturing, consultancy and the eNGO sector in both Australia and the United Kingdom. He has a BSc in Fishery Science and a PhD in flatfish larval rearing from the University of Tasmania and has been involved in salmonid, marine fish, abalone and rock lobster farming, recirculation systems, development of aquaculture teaching courses and certification of sustainable and organic aquaculture. He has published numerous papers on a diverse range of aquaculture issues and research.
Dr Hart has been working for the WWF for the past five years and is presently the Global Aquaculture Lead. He is also a Director of SARF and is on the Steering Group for the IFFO RS Board and the ASC Feed Dialogue.
